TEAMONE LOGISTICS DISCUSSES IMPACT OF STRR ACT
A house bill referred to as the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act (STRR Act) which was released on October 15, 2015 has officially been passed. According to the official website of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, “[The STRR Act] will help us spend less time stuck in traffic, facilitate commerce and economic growth, boost our competitiveness, help create jobs, and improve our quality of life.”
The STRR Act presents some of the biggest changes to the trucking and transportation industry in over a decade. Drivers under 21 years of age have only been allowed to travel within the boundaries of one state. One of the major changes resulting from this bill includes allowing drivers in this age group to cross state lines. Another change is CSA related. For example, the FMCSA will have to remove all crash records, CSA scores, and history of violations from the public. In addition, there will need to be a pilot program set up for drivers under 21 years of age.
