LOW GAS PRICES IMPACT THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY
(As seen on Yahoo Finance)
Fuel is a costly expense for companies within the trucking industry. Fortunately, this may not be a worry to business owners for the next few months as industry professionals predict low gas pricesfor at least the first quarter of the new year.
TeamOne Logistics CEO Page Siplon says, “When [gas] prices go down, that gives a company more flexibility.” Siplon also states that when gas prices are high, business owners within the trucking industry feel obligated to raise prices for clients and customers. As a result of current low prices, funds that would typically be spent on gas can now be used for other company related purposes (employee raises, repairs, upgrades, etc.).
Whereas gas prices in Atlanta were at a record high of $4.11 back in 2011, the current price average in January 2016 is roughly $1.90 per gallon. This is a remarkable record low since the recession eight years ago. As the price of gas typically increases as weather grows warmer, business owners can expect to be charged in the mid-to-low $2 range up until late spring and early summer.
